Westchester School District Mourns Fourth-Grade Student 'Taken Far Too Soon'

A school district in Westchester is mourning the untimely loss of a young boy.

The Mount Vernon City School District announced the death of fourth-grade student Ayman Yahaya Luwaa on Thursday, Feb. 1.

According to district officials, Luwaa died on Tuesday morning, Jan. 30. He had previously received care at Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla until August 2023.

"He is in the thoughts and hearts of everyone throughout the District as we grieve his passing," the district said in a statement, adding that Luwaa was "taken far too soon."

More details about Luwaa's death were not released by the district.
